Hello, my name is Melissa and I am one of your local cat sitters and dog walkers in Tamarac, FL. I am a native Floridian and an animal lover through and through. I have had a deep appreciation for all creatures, big and small for as long as I can remember. My family gave me the nickname “nature girl” when I was a young child, and it still applies to this day. I am happiest when I am taking care of animals. Throughout my life I have had many animals touch my heart. A dog, many cats, turtles, birds, fish, a bunny, hamsters, a bearded dragon and a baby rat!
I have also been able to rescue numerous cats, a dog, ducks, turtles and a dove. I always tell people, “I don’t go looking for them, they find me” and it is so true. Lol
Because of my love and desire to care for animals, I have made it my profession and have worked in many different capacities caring for them. As a teenager, I dog-sat for my neighbor’s golden retriever when he was just a puppy. He was so adorable! As a young adult, I was blessed to hand raise 2 newborn kittens. It was a lot of work, but so fulfilling to me. They grew up and thrived.
I then had the opportunity to work as a veterinary assistant/technician for 3 1/2 years. I absolutely loved this job! Being a part of the care of so many precious pets and getting to know their families was what I felt called to do.
I have so many wonderful memories of my time there and I learned so much… Especially that pet people are the best kind of people!
I have also been the go-to person to pet-sit when my friends or family are away on vacation. I feel honored that they entrust me with their furry friends in their homes.
I currently have 2 rescue cats of my own named Liz and Gino who bring our family so much joy. My youngest daughter is holding out for a puppy. Hopefully one day soon.
I also volunteer at a wildlife hospital every week where I care for injured animals. I just love being able to serve in this way!
This brings me to the reason I became a pet sitter. Having my own beloved pets, I can understand the desire to have someone whom you can trust will love and care for your pets and respect your home while you are away.
